01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Near a busy intersection in the old-town neighborhood of Nishi-Nippori, Doyaji welcomes diners with the fragrant smoke of tabletop charcoal grilling. Inside, the restaurant offers an easygoing, comfortable dining room that accommodates solo guests dropping in for a hearty midday meal just as easily as small groups gathering around a table.
Casual Lunch Sets and Rice Bowls
The midday menu features classic lunch sets such as kalbi, harami skirt steak, and salted beef tongue, with the option to upsize the meat portion or double it for a more substantial serving. For quick comfort, the sauce-glazed kalbi rice bowl and the extra-large stamina don are filling choices, while chilled reimen noodles provide a refreshing, smooth contrast to the rich meats.
Meat Platters and Korean Small Plates
Evenings are best navigated by starting with one of the restaurant's diverse combination platters. Alongside standard assortments combining kalbi, roast, and harami, the three- and five-piece horumon samplers allow diners to select specific cuts—such as jo-horumon, jo-mino tripe, or beef liver for the grill—making it easy to compare distinct textures and rich flavors. While waiting for cuts to sizzle on the wire mesh, the table fills out nicely with tender simmered pig's feet, yangnyeom seasoned tofu, and crisp seafood chijimi pancakes.
The drink selection complements the grilled fare with draft beer, refreshing fruit sours, and "Gin to Niku," a gin-based highball garnished with lemon and black pepper. Doyaji stays open continuously from lunchtime through the evening, and because peak dinner hours can get busy, booking ahead is a sensible step when planning a leisurely dinner with company.
